Summary:

InTASC standard four, Content Knowledge, was established to require that teachers thoroughly understand the best pedagogy practices, main ideas of specific content, and how to effectively translate knowledge allowing facilitation of growth within learners. This standard ensures teachers are able to effectively create learning experiences that allow mastery of content by the students.

Importance:

This standard is important because being able to understand the content being taught is the foundation of effective pedagogy. Reflection upon professional development through this standard, requires educators to maintain their qualifications, continue best pedagogy practices within the classroom to create more engaging and meaningful instructional plans to continue to facilitate positive learning for all students. 

Artifact #1: PRAXIS 

This artifact represents adherence to standard four, content knowledge. These test scores show that I am able to adequately transfer the necessary knowledge to my students to promote growth and development. Being able to understand the content will help me better facilitate learning within the classroom to my students.

Artifact #2: VCLA

This artifact demonstrates my capability to excel in content knowledge and the ideas of literacy assessments . This test, the VCLA (Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment, specifically tests for the proficiency in literacy and communication skills) test scores is added along with the PRAXIS test to make evident the importance of recognizing the need for students to master the content.  Through these assessments, I will be able to successfully facilitate my students learning and growth in the classroom.

Artifact #3: RVE

This artifact, the RVE (Reading for Virginia Educators) Test, specifically test for the proficiency of reading and literacy of the teacher for the elementary school level. Through standard four, content knowledge, the RVE allows for the successful completion of the transfer of knowledge from the educator to the student. This ultimately facilitates positive growth and development both within the teacher and the students education.
